Here at Freya's Wish we have a fabulous team of individuals who help out whenever they can. Some old, some new but all just as important as one another. without our amazing volunteers Freya's Wish would not be as special as it is!
We asked them why they chose to help at Freya's Wish and heres what we got!
Who knew then how far this would grow. It’s so humbling and beautiful. We have had our highs and our low’s but also so many blessings. September 27th, 2020, I created that go fund me just from an idea, getting keys to a rundown building December, opening our doors June 2021 now everything we have created today. All though we still have along way to go battling against our repairs, Freya's wish is a unique space I never want to give up on.
I honestly had no idea, where all this would go back then, it was only a vision to share Freya’s love while I was grieving to help my mental health, helping others who need guidance and the only way left I have at being a mother.
This is all for you Freya, the community and the beauty of Dundee and further. I thank everyone on this journey always, Grateful every day, with out any of you none of this would be possible. We wouldn’t be able to give back to the community, include everyone in our event’s, creating magical memories and share love with all who need it the most.
FREYA'S WISH ♡
Community Initiative in memory of Freya Ava Skene
As most of you know me & my gorgeous daughter were in a freak accident in 2020. Like a flash of a light, a current dragged us both down a waterfall. I survived this but sadly our beautiful Angel grew her wings. Our hearts have stopped & will never be the same without our Freya but from now on our purpose is to keep her memory growing while helping low-income parents within Dundee create beautiful memories with their children and loved ones still here.
Everyone who knew Freya can say that she lived life to the fullest. She was kind, caring & would do anything to be involved in things that helped created change. We were so blessed to have her in our lives. The one thing that's keeping us strong is our endless memories and love we had together. This is why I have worked endlessly to create this community Initiative.
Memories are so important. I know from experience that they aren't always in financial reach, so I want to break down the barriers and see families create beautiful memories with their children and loved ones in memory of our Freya. Not only that, but everything else we have created since the beginning…
At Freya's Wish our biggest goals are allowing dreams to become a reality while making memories and sharing love with the community. We are a place where we bring the beauty of Dundee culture and further together to create beautiful memories.
We host monthly Thrift Day’s for all who need it to enjoy, where we set up our venue with all the things we have been donated, buy fresh food, cook hot food, have hot drinks and support the wider community with all the materialistic nonsense so money can be spent on more important things like memories.
We are a creative platform for talented personalities of all ages and walks of life. We host weekly drop in’s, live music events, poetry gigs, Dance nights, Easter, Frey-stival, Halloween, etc. We are rentable for kid’s parties and special occasions.
We are a platform for you to host your own events. We are a safe space for all to love and enjoy.
We offer rehearsal space for artists and inspiring artists to get creative and have fun.
Our community boutique is now officially open with the best of gear at affordable prices. Most of our events are donation-based value for money so no one feels left out due to financial reasons.
As a team we will continue to come up with creative ways to raise money. However, we can’t do it alone and like everything in life everything has an expense even if all you do is give.
Life is costly. Anything no matter how small all adds up and allows us to continue everything that we do. Thank you everyone for your support so far. In memory of our butterfly Freya Ava Skene, 01/08/2012 - 06/07/2020. ♡
Freya’s Wish originally was a place I came to for events — a place I came to have a bit of fun, and a place where I felt misfits like myself had somewhere to feel safe and welcomed. That’s what Freya’s Wish once was to me.
Freya’s Wish, to me now, is my home away from home. It’s a priority in my life — something I’m not only glad to be a part of, but something I’m proud to be a part of. It’s a focal point of my conversations with strangers.
I was never wrong about Freya’s Wish. It’s absolutely a place for misfits. If you don’t feel like you fit in, then Freya’s Wish is your home — you just don’t know it yet.
For something so tragic and life-ruining to be turned into such a beautiful, welcoming, loving, caring, and overall amazing space for everyone involved is nothing short of a miracle.
Although I was never granted the honour of meeting little Frey, the stories I hear from Brooke and from everyone who did meet the little cracker make me feel like I knew her personally.
May we always remember her, and continue making friends and memories in beautiful little Frey’s memory.
Freya's wish is such a special place and I like helping out as it means a lot to be part of it. I've shared lots of my own memory's with my own kids here, met lots off new friends and it's helped so much with my mental health and confidence.
As soon as the idea of creating a charity in Freya's name, and Freya's Wish started to sprout, I didn't even think about it I just helped where I could. Not only could I see it meant a lot to Brooke but I could see a huge gap in the community of Dundee that Freya's Wish could fill. From the giving away and repurposing of children's toys, clothes and necessities to the events that bring the community together and people of all ages new opportunities - it all makes a huge difference to peoples lives, I've seen it first hand and it really touches my heart. Also the big dreams and future prospects for everyone are exciting and I know that Brooke won't stop until she gets there! It's inspiring us all to dream big and put our minds to bigger more important things.
I've chose to help out at Freya's wish because it's an amazing place full of amazing people, and no matter how bad of a day or week you've had it's as if going down and getting stuck into the work makes your worries go away.
I help out at Freya’s Wish as Brooke is an inspiration to all and her positivity is infectious. I enjoy the sense of community that it brings to people from all walks of life and helping others definitely has a feel good factor.
I'm Marley and I help at Freyas wish mainly because I believe in Brooke and love seeing her visions of something and doing my bit in making these visions a reality no matter how big or mad. Also she's my mate and I end up getting roped into it anyway!!
Volunteering for Freya’s Wish has been one of the most healing and uplifting experiences of my life. At a time when my mental health was struggling, being part of a creative space filled with compassion, purpose, and community gave me something truly meaningful to hold onto. Surrounded by people who genuinely want to make a difference, I found connection, inspiration, and a renewed sense of hope.
To Brooke, your strength and love in creating Freya’s Wish in memory of your beautiful daughter Freya is nothing short of incredible. The legacy you’ve built not only honours Freya but also gives so many of us a space to heal, grow, and give back. I’m endlessly grateful to be a part of something so special.
I've always been a part of Brooke's charity in memory of Freya. I class Brooke as one of my best friends, I'll be there for her till the end, no matter what, and help as much as i can. Kindness really does not cost anything, we need people to be more kind and less judgmental in this world i think, and that's what Freya's Wish is all about. We are all lucky to have Brooke as our leader in this Journey with Freya's Wish as she really is the biggest inspiration I know. I try to think twice now before moaning about things in my life etc, because I think about Brooke and how strong she is and always has been to be honest, but more so now than ever. I know Freya is so proud of all of us, but especially her best friend and beautiful inspiring mother Brooke. Freya we love you forever and we will keep your memory alive always.

The whole place is a vibe and the community around it is nothing short of magic. I love being involved in this big family
Hiya, my name is Chloe Din and I’ve been a proud fairy/volunteer at Freya’s Wish since it was first established by Brooke, about 5 years ago now. I never had the pleasure of meeting Brooke’s lovely daughter, Freya, who we continue to celebrate every day. I was very keen to get involved with Freya’s Wish to support one of my best friends after going through the unimaginable. Brooke is our hero, and her little girl shines through her smile everyday. Brooke has to be one of the most energised, positive, caring and inspirational woman I’ve ever met. When my friend told us about her ambitious community initiative, we were all very excited and I’m so proud of everything Brooke has done over the years.
Seeing the space develop, change, and continue to grow has been very special.
Freya’s Wish is such a creative, welcoming and quirky transferable space that encourages networking and collaboration amongst many. The community initiative’s ethos is another attraction as Brooke aims not only to provide public events, but to raise enough funds to donate to families who are of more financially disadvantaged demographics to spend quality time with each other and share happy memories together.
Freya’s Wish does it all! Whether it’s a music gig, a free rehearsal space, raves, family fun days with loads of different activities, a festival, live shows, fire breathing classes, drama workshops, giving days, a clothes boutique, hair cuts, weekly hang outs, poetry nights, annual events, neuro-diverse events, back to school uniform and stationary packs… There’s always something exciting happening at Freya’s Wish!
I am a professional actor and director and my specialism is devised theatre. I’ve facilitated drama workshops and directed shows professionally since 2018. As a volunteer at Freya’s Wish I provide drama classes for kids and adults, safe vocal practice sessions for performers, and I thoroughly enjoy assisting in any way I can prior to and during events.
I’ve got Brooke to thank for all the opportunities that Freya’s Wish has catalysed in Dundee. This non-judgemental space has introduced me to so many talented and good people who are now friends of mine, and it always brings out the best in us if we’re surrounded by people who inspire us.
Recently, Brooke has helped me personally by working closely with me to establish a devising theatre company called, ‘Gee It A Bash!’. This collaboration with Freya’s Wish offers weekly “drama” sessions for both adults and children. I believe that there is a huge gap in the Dundee creative industry for a devising theatre company. (AND to extend our adult social lives outwith the pub, social media, or a coffee shop!). Devising means that participants write the script and songs together through a series of rehearsed improvisations, which I tailor towards our company agreed topic. The aim is to offer ‘Pay What You Can’ classes, simply so that we can all hang out, learn new skills, and create something meaningful and entertaining together. Individuals should notice improved confidence and morale from working with each other this way. Furthermore, participating in these affordable weekly devising classes should lead to; a good show, new friendships, new skills and improved mental and physical wellbeing. ‘Gee It A Bash!’ blends smoothly with the aims of the Freya’s Wish initiative, and will hopefully bring our community together in a safe and sober environment to create some MAGIC!
THANK YOU, Brooke, thank you Freya’s Wish, and thank you to everyone who’s been involved in various ways over the years.
So many good times & great vibes!
Long may it continue!
I started volunteering with Freya’s Wish in 2024, and it’s been such a great experience. The space has a really good vibe, and everyone who works there is super kind and welcoming. I love being part of a team that cares about helping others. It’s a fun, inspiring place to be, and it’s made a big difference in my life.
